Two Young Mothers Pass Away In Schaller

(Naomi L. Harris)

Schaller - This community has been very deeply shocked the past week when two young mothers came to an early death leaving one home with four small daughters, and the other with seven young ones. The first tragedy occurred when Mrs. Wm. S. Lane was found dead in bed at her home Thursday about eleven o'clock. Mrs. Lane was found by neighbors when she failed to respond to the children's repeated calls. Mr. Lane was employed out of town and it is not known the exact nature of her death, but it is assumed that she had passed early the evening before. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. at United Presbyterian church with Rev. G. G. Nusbaum, pastor in charge. Interment under the direction of the Farber-Otteman Funeral Home was in Schaller Cemetery. Mrs. Lane is survived by her husband, Wm. S. Lane, four small daughters, Thressa, Susan, Peggy and Nancy, and many other relatives and friends. Mrs. Lane was an elementary teacher in the Galva School and had attended the first session of summer school at Buena Vista College, Storm Lake.
The second tragedy occurred Sunday morning when Mrs. Don Pyle (former Margaret Ann Kotz) suffered a fatal attack when she arose early that morning. She leaves to mourn her husband, Don, seven small children, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kotz, Mrs. Roger Drey of Early and Mrs. Ronald King of Washington state and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services are pending.
