Harold Robbins
Harold Jess Robbins, 74, of Viola, died Friday, March 5, 2004,
in Cable, Wis., as the result of an accident.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church,
Viola. Burial will be in Alexis Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m.
Tuesday at the church. Dennison Funeral Home, Viola, is handling
arrangements. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born Sept. 13, 1929, in Galesburg, son of Irvin and Verma
Baxter Robbins. He married E. Mae Richardson May 15, 1959, in Palmyra, Mo.
Jess served in the Marines during the Korean War. He owned and
operated Robbins Excavating for 25 years. He was recently a truck driver.
He was a member of Viola American Legion Post 229 and the Viola
Fire Department, where he was the former chief, and former Greene
Township road commissioner.
Survivors include his wife, Mae Robbins, Viola; grandchildren,
Steve Melleny, Little York, Ill., and Bonnie Melleny, Viola; and
sisters, Doris Hoing, Viola, Eula Jean Smith, Viola, and Nitabelle
Whitehall, Joy. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Melleny
on Jan. 15, 2001; his parents; and a brother, Loren Robbins.
