Fred C. Roettler, 94. Dies on Tuesday; Rites to be
Thursday
Funeral services for Fred C. Roettler, 94, one of the oldest
member of the Viola Community, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April
17, at St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Viola. The Rev. John
Morrrissey, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in St. John's
Cemetery at Viola.
Prayer services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Crummy
Funeral Home and the Rosary was recited at 8 p.m., tonight, Wednesday, at Crummy's.
Mr. Roettler, who was a retired farmer, died at 3:55 a.m.
Tuesday, April 15, at the Mercer County Hospital, where he had been a
patient for six days.
He was born Dec. 28, 1874, on a farm northwest of Viola and a son
of Jacob and Mary Andrews Roettler, and received his education in
Gilchrist schools. He lived on the family farm until 1944 when he moved
into Viola. He never married.
Mr. Roettler was a charter member of Farmer's Grain and Supply
Co. in Viola, and served as a director for 34 years. He was a member of
St. John's Catholic Church in Viola.
For the past several years, Mr. Roettler had resided with a
nephew and niece, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Mack.
Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Emma Jordan of Viola and several
nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six sisters.
