Kate Roettler
Miss Kate Roettler passed away at her home northwest of Viola
on Thursday, June 18, 1936, at the age of 58 years, 11 months, and two
days, after more than a year's illness with cancer.
She was the daughter of the late Jacob and Mary Andrews Roettler and was
born July 16, 1877, on the farm where she passed away, and had spent
almost her entire life. She received her education in the rural school near her home.
After the death of her mother 37 years ago, she endeavored to
take her place and responsibility in the home, which she accomplished to a marked degree.
She was an ardent member of St. John's Catholic church and the
Altar society and was diligent in the work of the church and went about doing good.
She was one of a family of eight children, one sister, Bertha,
dying in infancy. Surviving are five sisters, Mrs. Lana Schmitt,
Brinkley, Ark.; Mrs. Emma Jordan and Mrs. Ida Schaechter, of Viola; Mrs.
Mary Jones, Matherville; Mrs. Freda Peterson, New Windsor and one
brother, Fred, at home.
Funeral services were held from St. John's Catholic church,
Saturday morning, June 20, at 9:30 o'clock, the pastor, Father John T.
Shields, officiating. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery north of Viola.
The pallbearers were nephews of the deceased, Messrs. John and
Charles Schaechter, Harold and Leo Jones, Leo and Freddie Peterson.

Mrs. Frank Park, Mrs. Chas. Cox, Mrs. Anna Hudelier, Mrs. Herman
Hudelier, Mrs. Gus Hudelier of Rock Island; Mr. and Mrs. Cleland Alvin,
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Kozlerich, Leo Jones of
Moline; Clarence Mohr and Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Gilchrist, Miss Catherine
Schaechter, Miss Catherine Quick, Davenport; Mrs. Geo. Schmitt, Brinkey, Ark.
