Mrs. Jacob Roettler
Mrs. Jacob Roettler died at her home, north-west of Viola on
Tuesday, July 11, 1899, at the age of 55 years, 6 months and 18 days.
Mary Andres was born in Baden, Germany, Sept. 24, 1843. In Oct.
1867, she came to the United States. She married Jacob Roettler at Rock
Island, Ill., Sept. 14, 1868. Mr. and Mrs. Roettler immediately settled
in Greene township on the same farm where Mrs. Roettler died. To them
were born eight children, seven of whom survive to mourn the loss of a
kind and loving mother. One daughter, Bertha, died in infancy. Those
living are Mrs. Geo. Schmitt, of Rock Island; Mrs. Louis Schaechter,
living west of town; Fred C., Katie, Mary, Emma and Freda Roettler, all
living at home with their father.
Mrs. Mary Roettler was a kind and loving wife and mother, a good
neighbor and highly respected by all who knew her. She was a member of
the Catholic church and was an earnest worker in the society here. The
funeral services were conducted at St. John's church on Thursday
morning, July 13, at 10:30 o'clock, by the pastor, Rev. Father Sheridan
of Keithsburg after which the remains were interred in the Catholic
cemetery north of town.
