Claude E. Roth
Claude Everett "Bill" Roth, the son of Martin and
Elizabeth Higgins Roth, was born Aug. 15, 1896 in Villisca, Iowa and
entered into rest July 28, 1983 at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des
Moines, Iowa, at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 13 days.
He was united in marriage April 26, 1922 with Lura McConkay. She
preceded him in death in 1968.
The couple left Villisca in 1926 and lived in various parts of the
country. They settled in Neb. where he was working for the Burlington
Railroad. Claude retired from the railroad in 1961. Since then, he had
been living in Des Moines until the time of his death.
He served his country on many occasions. He first served at the
Mexican border conflict. He also served in WW I and was wounded at
Argonne Forest. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in
Villisca.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his wife.
Survivors are three nieces, Mrs. Helen Barry Mack of Des Moines,
Mrs. Royal Rusco of Bedford and Mrs. Catherine Windom of Villisca, Iowa;
two great-nieces, Mrs. Anne Kordick of Darien, Conn. and Ms. Barbara
Mack of Des Moines; two great-nephews, Richard Mack of Des Moines and
Jim Rusco of Bedford.
Graveside services were held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Corning, Iowa,
July 30 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Steve Williams officiating.
