Mrs. William Ryan, Jr.
Helen Florence Devine Ryan died at the Murphy Memorial
Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa, August 25, 1977. She was born March 14, 1907
at Nodaway, Iowa, to John and Mabel Devine.
She was married to William Ryan, Jr. August 12, 1930 at St.
Timothy Catholic Church in Reno, Iowa. To this union ten children were born.
A lifetime resident of the Corning vicinity, Helen was an active
member of the Altar Society at St. Patrick Catholic Church. She enjoyed
gardening and baking. She will also be remembered for her love of
children and her frequent correspondence with family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, William, and nine children, Rita
Ryan of Omaha, Nebr.; Jack of Titusville, Florida; Sister Loretta of
Davenport; Francis of Carroll; Bill of Corning; Bernadine Culver of
Omaha, Nebr.; Ann Marie Peterson of Sioux City; Phyllis Lueninghoener of
Macon, Georgia; Theresa Ryan of Salt Lake City, Utah; and 14
grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters, Rachel McLaren,
Mary Waters and Loretta Reichardt, all of Massena, and Ruth Kenowski of
Vancouver, Washington; and by one brother. Art Devine of Atlantic, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by a daughter. Mary Maurice; three
brothers, Jackie, Charles and William; and two infant grandchildren.
Funeral mass was celebrated by Msgr. John Kovacs at St. Patrick
Catholic Church in Corning, August 29 at 10:00 A.M. Burial was in
Calvary Cemetery in Corning, Iowa.
Eleanor Kelly was organist. Pallbearers were Harold Leonard,
Arnold Leonard, Louis Kennedy, Dean Leonard, Homer O'Connell and Tom Matya.
