William Ryan, Jr.
William Ryan, Jr., the son of William and Mary Kennedy Ryan
was born on a farm in Mercer township of Adams County, Iowa, August 10,
1894 and passed away at the Rosary Hospital in Corning, Iowa, February
21, 1980, at the age of 85 years, 6 months and 11 days. He had been in
failing health for the last six months.
He was united in marriage with Helen Florence Devine August 12,
1930 at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, south of Cumberland, Iowa. Ten
children were born to bless this union.
"Bill" and Helen farmed south of Corning for many years
and were good neighbors and friends to all. Helen preceded him in death
August 25, 1977. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Mary
Maurice, August 23, 1972.
He is survived by his three sons, Jack Ryan of Harrogate,
England, Francis Ryan of Carroll, Iowa and Bill Ryan of Prescott; six
daughters: Rita Ryan of Omaha, Ne., Sister Loretta Ryan of Davenport,
Bernadine (Mrs. Mike) Culver of Omaha, Ne., Ann Marie (Mrs. George)
Peterson of Sioux City, Phyllis Leuninghoener of Omaha, Ne. and Theresa
Ryan of Canoga Park, California; fifteen grandchildren; a son-in-law,
Ron Maurice of Dakota, Minn.; one brother, Pat Ryan of Omaha; and two
sisters, Ethel Pedersen and Nellie Wulf, both of Omaha, Nebraska.
Funeral services were held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in
Corning February 25 at 10:00 a.m., with Msgr. John F. Kovacs
officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Corning, Iowa.
Music was furnished by Eleanor Kelly, organist, and the St.
Patrick's Church choir. Pallbearers were Harold Leonard, Arnold Leonard,
Louis Kennedy, Don Hefflefinger, Tom Matya and Drexel Lundquist.
