Obituary

Rock Island - Rev. Louis J. Schaechter, 87, of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of Rock Island, died Feb. 20, 1995, at Good Samaritan Center, Davenport.
  Services were held Feb. 23, 1995, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rock Island.
Burial was in St. John's Cemetery, Viola.
  Kirk, Huggins and Esterdahl Funeral Home, Orion, was in charge of arrangements.
  He was born July 15, 1907, in Viola, the son of Louis and Ida Roettler Schaechter.
  He was ordained in 1941, as a priest. He was a parish priest in the Diocese of Peoria. He was first assistant at St. Mary's Church, Pesotum, at St. Mary's Church, East Moline, and at St. Patrick's Church, Peoria. He later was administrator at St. Michael's, Bement, and then was chaplain at St. Anthony's Hospital, Rock Island and at East Moline State Hospital.
  In 1955, he became pastor of St. Mary's Church, Tiskilwa, and then was pastor at St. Joseph's Church, Pesotum; St. Mary's Church, Lorettoo; and Our Lady of Guadalupe, Silvis. He then was the chaplain at the former Franciscan Medical Center, Rock Island, and pastor at St. Patrick's , Camp Grove, retiring in 1978.
  He was a member of Galesburg Knights of Columbus.
  Survivors include a sister-in-law, Florence Schaechter, Rock Island; a brother-in-law, George Steiner of Sacremento, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
