Mrs. Schenking Of Halbur Dies At Home Today
Funeral Services Will Be Held At St. Augustine's Monday
Halbur (Special) - Mrs. Theresa Schenking, 80 years old long
time Halbur resident, passed away this morning about 1 o'clock. Mrs.
Schenking had been enjoying fairly good health until about a week ago
when she contracted the flu. Complications set in within the last few
days and due to her advancing age and weakened condition passed away this morning.
Funeral services will be held at St. Augustine's church at Halbur,
Monday morning at 9 o'clock. The Rev. B. Schillmoeller, pastor, will
read the requiem mass. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery.
Born In Germany
Theresa Graving was born on April 24, 1855 at Nottull, Kreis,
Munster, West Phalem, Germany. She spent her girlhood in Germany and
lived with her parents until she was 27 years old.
She became the bride of Ludzig Schenking on March 3, 1882 at the place
of her birth.
The young couple immigrated to America, coming directly to
Carroll county, Ia., where they settled on a farm two miles east and one
mile south of Halbur. They live there for 23 years, then retiring to the
present Schenking home in Halbur.
Survivors
Her husband passed away on May 1, 1913. Two children died in infancy.
Surviving are four daughters: (Anna) Mrs. B. Becker of Morganville, N.
J., (Emma) Mrs. John Reinart of Manning, (Louise) Mrs. Frank Friedman
and Miss Clara Schenking, both of Halbur and sixteen grandchildren.
