Final Rites For Mrs. Schmidt, 65 Held In Milan
Funeral services for Mrs. Maude E. Schmidt, 65, of near
Reynolds, were held in the Larson funeral home, Milan, at 1 p.m. on
Sunday, Feb. 13, 1960, and at 2 p.m. in the Reynolds Methodist church on
that day. The Rev. Carroll Ochsner officiated and burial was in Reynolds cemetery.
A former school teacher and civic leader, Mrs. Schmidt had been
in poor health for two months and in California since November when she
died in a Beverly Hills hospital at 2.a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1960.
Born in Coal Valley
Mrs. Schmidt was born Jan. 10, 1895 in Coal Valley, a daughter
of James and Elizabeth Adams Sackville. She was reared and received her
education in Coal Valley, where she attended the public schools and was
graduated from Coal Valley high school.
She moved to Buffalo Prairie where she lived for six years,
moving to Milan for 10 years, and had resided for over 25 years in the
Reynolds and Edgington areas. Mrs. Schmidt was a former school teacher
in the Illinois City schools.
She was married to Louis M. Schmidt August 26, 1914, and he died in 1953.
Gold Star Mother
Mrs. Schmidt was a member of the Reynolds Methodist church and
the WSOS of the church. She was a Gold Star Mother and a member of the
American Legion auxiliary, Reynolds.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Gloria Parchert, Reynolds,
Mrs. Elizabeth Beauchamp, Rock Island, Mrs. Desyl Wood, Redondo Beach,
Calif., Mrs. Ramona Taylor, New Berlin, Ill., and Mrs. Karen Snowden,
Lorain, Ohio; five sons, Marlin L., Reynolds, Virgil S., Decatur,
Bernard H., Reynolds, Stanley E., Los Angeles, Calif. and Larry R.,
Orion 28 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Ray, Reynolds and James, Aledo, and
a sister, Mrs. Mildred Schmidt, Aledo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son and two
sisters.
