Alvy Schoenherr

  Mass of the Christian burial for Alvy T. Schoenherr of Glidden will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 20, 1996, at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden.
  Mr. Schoenherr, 79, died Wednesday, April 17, 1996, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital following a brief illness.
  The Rev. Richard Kielbasa and the Rev. Richard Remmes, a cousin of Mrs. Schoenherr, will concelebrate the Mass. Lector will be Sister Consilia Schoenherr. Gift bearers will be Matt Steffes, Jill Schoenherr and Jamie Schoenherr. Mass servers will be Marie Schoenherr, Mark Steffes and Kristin Kennebeck.
  Casket bearers will be grandsons: Jeff Melners, Ryan Kasperbauer, Robb Steffes, Shaun Melners, Dan Schoenherr and Nick Steffes. Honorary casket bearers will be granddaughters: Julie Schoenherr, Jaci Melners, Laura Schoenherr, Kala Kasperbauer, Debbie Schoenherr and Marcie Schoenherr.
  Burial will be in Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery at Glidden. Friends called and a rosary was recited this afternoon at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden. A Christian wake service will be held tonight at 7:30 at the funeral home.
  Born Sept. 13, 1916, at Mapleton, he was the son of Mike and Elizabeth (Zeiman) Schoenherr. He attended St. Mary School in Mapleton.
  He and Helene Staley were married on Feb. 7, 1944, at St. Mary Catholic Church at Ute. After their marriage, they farmed north of Ute. The Schoenherrs farmed in Guthrie County until 1952 and have been farming in the Glidden area since 1957.
  Mr. Schoenherr was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church.
  Survivors include his wife, Helene, of Glidden; five children and their spouses: Jim Schoenherr and his wife, Carlyn, of Glidden, Ielene Steffes and her husband, Larry, of Spencer, Jeanine Melners and her husband, Ron, of Carroll, Kathie Kasperbauer and her husband, Dennis, of Spencer and Jude Schoenherr and his wife, Judy, of Dow City; 17 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; five sisters: Sister Consilia Schoenherr of Sioux City, Bernice Hageman of Charter Oak, Sister Eileen Schoenherr of Cedar Rapids, Stella Dietz and her husband, Paul, of Des Moines, and Nora Flanigan and her husband, Joe, of Mapleton.
  Mr. Schoenherr was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Theresa Schoenherr, Rita Weber and Clara Pewick; a brother, Paul Schoenherr; and a daughter-in-law, Lois Schoenherr, in 1993.
