Preemption
Mrs. William Schoening
Word was received by relatives here of the death of Mrs.
William Schoening at St. Anthony's hospital on Sunday afternoon at 3:15.
Mrs. Schoening had been an invalid for the past year. A week ago she was
taken to St. Anthony's hospital where she underwent an operation on
Saturday, June 23. On Wednesday she seemed to be getting along nicely
but later in the week took a relapse and the end came on Sunday.
The deceases always lived on the farm 2 1/2 miles north of Preemption.
She was of a happy disposition and will be sadly missed in her home.
Mamie Bauer Schoening was born on Sept. 26, 1875, at the Bauer
homestead 2 1/2 miles north of Preemption, the daughter of Jacob and
Mary McDonald Bauer. She received her education at the Woods school. She
grew to womanhood at the old home and here she and her sister, Miss
Sadie, kindly ministered to their parents in their declining years.
After the death of their parents, the two sisters took fair charge of
affairs and until the time of the passing of the sister, they had
continued the overseeing of their farm.
On Oct. 18, 1921, she was united in marriage with Will Schoening
in Rock Island. She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic church in
Milan. Surviving besides the husband are three sisters, Mrs. Emma Daxon
and Mrs. Eliza Coyne of Bowling and Miss Sadie, at home; three nieces
and one nephew, Mrs. Koch, Mrs. Robert Schaffer, Miss Mary Koch, Mrs.
Robt. Schaffer, Miss Margaret Daxon and Bernard Daxon of Milan, one
grand-niece, Mary Louise Koch. A brother died in infancy.
The body was removed to Freytag Funeral home in Reynolds and was
taken to the home of her ister, Mrs. Daxon, on Monday evening. Funeral
services were held at St. Ambrose Catholic church in Milan on Tuesday
morning at 9:30 with interment in St. Joseph's cemetery at Preemption.
Pallbearers were Bernard Daxon, Robert Schaffer, Charles and Sam Love,
J. E. Schoening and Gene Ward.
