Dorrence D. Shomo
Dorrence D. Shomo died Tuesday evening shortly after seven
o'clock after an illness which had covered a period of four months and
during which time he suffered repeated heart attacks of heart trouble.
Funeral services were held from St. Patrick's Catholic church at 9:00
o'clock Thursday morning.
Dorrence Dixon Shomo was born November 27, 1879 and died February
16 being at the time of his death 46 years, 2 months and 20 days old. He
was born in New Sharon, Iowa was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Shomo.
His father died in 1881 and shortly Dorrence suffered from an attack of
spinal meningitis from which he never recovered entirely and grew to
manhood physically handicapped by the effects of this disease. He was
always ambitious and for the past fifteen years has sold daily papers
and always covered his routes faithfully. Before coming to Corning he
and his mother lived in Dubuque and later in Glenwood. The last three
years have been spent in Corning.
He is survived by his mother and an uncle, J. W. Dixon, who is
his mothers brother and who lives in the home.
