Gretchen L. Smith, 61, of Viola, died Saturday, July 17, 2004,
at her home.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola.
Burial will be in Viola Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at
the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Viola Fire Department
Building Fund or the Viola Hardball Association.
She was born Aug. 30, 1942, in Moline, daughter of Carlyle and
Helen Wakeland Gridley. She married Howard "Bunk" Smith July 17, 1960,
in Keithsburg. He preceded her in death March 16, 1995.
Gretchen was a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her
grandchildren and watching them play baseball. She was a former member
of the Winola Booster Club and a member of Viola United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Ron
Redpath, Viola; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Darcy Smith, Viola;
six grandchildren, Heath, Jordan and Taylor Smith and Vanessa, Victoria
and Grant Redpath; mother, Helen Gridley, Keithsburg; and brother, Jack
Gridley, Keithsburg. She was preceded in death by her husband and father.
