Catherine Sullivan
The death of Mrs. Catherine Sullivan Wednesday morning, July
7, at 6 a. m. brought sorrow to a community where she had endeared
herself to many during the 63 years in which she live in Adams and
Taylor counties. Mrs. Sullivan, because of her advanced years, had
failed much during the last year but up to that time had been active and
interested in every thing pertaining to her home, church and friends.
Ten days ago she was stricken ill with a serious malady and passed away
at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 9 days.
Catherine Cecilia Cashman, daughter of Thomas and Honora Cashman,
was born August 29, 1868 at LaSalle, Ill. She came to Iowa when she was
about 16 years old locating with her family in Taylor County six miles
south of Corning.
Miss Cashman was married to Cornelius Sullivan November 19, 1883
in Corning, the marriage being performed in the St. Patrick Catholic
church. Ten years ago the family moved to Corning. Mr. Sullivan died
December 31, 1932, and one child, Ted died in infancy. The surviving
children are Arthur F., Chinook, Montana; Mrs. Mary Cotter, Nell
Sullivan, Mrs. Nora Coleman and Eugene, Corning; and Mrs. Winifred
McNally, Council Bluffs. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren; three
sisters, Mrs. Margaret McGuire, Spring Valley, Illinois; Mrs. Hannah
O'Brien, Kansas City; Mrs. Lila Colgan, Corning; and one brother, J. W.
Cashman, Creston.
Mrs. Sullivan was a fine Christian woman, devoted to her home and
to her church, loving her friends deeply and active in all good works
during a long and useful life. She was a member of the St. Patrick
Church and was deeply loyal in her faith.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 9 a. m. at the
St. Patrick Catholic church conducted by the Rev. Father M. J. Powers
and burial will be made in the Calvary cemetery.
