Joseph Raymond Sullivan

He was one of a family of five children, having two brothers, Mark and Charles, and two sisters, Helen and Mary, all having preceded him in death. Raymond departed this life on July 12, 1993, at the age of 85 years, 4 months, and 23 days.
He lived his entire life on the farm where he was born except for a few years after the death of his father when the family lived in Corning. He married Irene Farris on October 21, 1940, in Corning, Iowa. They are the parents of two children, Richard and Ellen.
Raymond served on the REC board of directors for several years, and during his life was a member of the Farm Bureau, Iowa National Guard, and the Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed coffee with his many friends at the local cafe and only gave it up when his health failed.
He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. You could see him swell with pride whenever he spoke of them, which was quite often.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 53 years. Irene; his children, Richard and Pat Sullivan of Soldier, Iowa, and Ellen and Bob Seaton of Corning; his grandchildren, Richard and Sheri Zadina of Omaha, Neb., Joe Zadina, Bill and Kathy Zadina, all of Corning, Colleen and Jeff Bottjen, Michelle and Mark Lepp of St. James, Minn., Mike Sullivan and fianc'ee, Cindy Buck of Sioux City, Iowa, and Anthony Sullivan of Soldier, Iowa; his great-grandchildren, Jackie and Zachery Zadina of Corning, and Jacob and Courtney Bottjen of St. James, Minn.
Burial Mass was at 10 a.m. July 15, 1993, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Corning with Father John Bertogli officiating. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery with Roland Lindsay Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Carrying their grandfather to his final resting place were Richard, Bill, Joe, Colleen, Michelle, Michael and Tony. Honorary carriers were Jackie, Zachary, Jacob and Courtney.
