Sarah Swanson
Sara E. Swanson, 97, of Preemption, died Thursday, Dec. 2,
1999, at home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Preemption United Methodist
Church. The Rev. Leo Smith will officiate. Burial will be in the Viola
cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Monday at the
church. Memorials may be left to Preemption United Methodist Church,
American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
Sarah was born Aug. 15, 1902, near Viola, daughter of William and
Amy Bridger Cash. Sarah and her sister Meryle were baptized at an early
age and joined Viola Methodist Church. She graduated from the former
Viola High School.
She married Clark Swanson Aug. 16, 1922, in the Galesburg
Methodist Church. He died Nov. 9, 1968.
They farmed in Viola for several years until moving to their Preemption
farm in 1947.
She was a former member of Viola Methodist Church and currently was a
member of Preemption United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday school
in both churches and was a charter member and former president of the W.S.C.S.
Survivors include sons and a daughter-in-law, Bruce Swanson,
Preemption, and John and Marie Swanson, Aledo; grandchildren, Wesley
Swanson, Aledo, and Lisa Stevens, Milan; great-grandchildren, Timothy
and Sarah Shrock, both of Milan; and several nieces and nephews. Her
parents, four brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
