Swift Funeral Is Wednesday At 9:00
Services To Be In St. James Church-Died Yesterday Afternoon
Funeral services for Francis Swift of two miles east of town,
who died yesterday afternoon at his home, are announced for Wednesday
morning at nine o'clock at St. James Catholic church, to be in charge of
the pastor, Father Joseph O'Donnell, with burial in Elm Grove cemetery.
Mr. Swift, who was 62 years old, had been failing in health for
the last six years, following a stroke which he sustained at that time.
Recently his condition had become considerably worse.
Born Feb. 24, 1857, at Oneida, Ill., a son of Martin and Mary
(Gavin) Swift, both natives of Ireland, he came with the family to this
community when he was four years old, and had since lived here. His home
had been on the farm where his death occurred for the last 28 years.
Mr. Swift was married June 26, 1895, to Nellie Boyd, who survives
him, with two children, Harry Swift of east of town and Mrs. Clarence
Wheelan of Cedar Rapids. There are three grand children, Patricia Swift
and Bob and Harry Wheelan.
He leaves two sisters, Mrs. John Flynn and Mrs. Frank Bruty of
Washington; three brothers, James and Abe, both of this community, and
Marton of Walker, S. D., and one half brother, Richard B. Swift of
Davenport. One brother and one sister are deceased.
Mr. Swift was a member of St. James Catholic church and of the
Modern Woodman lodge. He was a fine man and a very worthy citizen, one
whom his neighbors and many friends and acquaintances held in the very
highest esteem.

Note: Brother's correct name was Martin, not Marton. Also, brother
Abe, had the given name of Aloysius Bartholomew Swift and sometimes
appears in the records as A. B. Swift. |
