Mrs. Luella Swift, 87 dies here on Wednesday
Mrs. Luella Swift, 87 of 1015 South Iowa Avenue, Washington,
died Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 27, 1982 at Washington County Hospital.
She was a retired nurse and at one time was night supervisor of nursing
at Washington County Hospital. She had been in poor health for a year
and seriously ill the past two weeks.
The funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Jones Funeral Home
with the Rev. George Bishop in charge. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery.
Friends may begin calling at Jones Funeral Home this evening. A
memorial fund has been established for the Good Samaritan Fund at
Halcyon House.
Luella Beal was born March 21, 1894 in Henderson County, Ill., a
daughter of William M. and Jennie Lanning Beal. She was raised here and
graduated from Burlington Hospital School of Nursing in 1917.
She married William Lloyd Swift July 24, 1919 and he died Dec.
18, 1961. She had lived here since 1910 and was a member of the United
Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Pauline Crone of Washington and
Mrs. Helen Holland of Willow Grove, Pa., and two brothers, Glen Beal of
Davenport and Hubert L. Beal of Beatrice, Nebr.
