George Talty Passes Away
Well Known Man Passes Away at Home on West First street at Seven
O'clock Sunday Evening. Came to Atlantic in 1871
George Talty, a well known resident of this city, died at
seven o'clock Sunday evening at his home on west First street in this
chit, death being the result of a paralytic stroke, complicated with the
illnesses of old age. He had been ailing for several months and during
the last twelve weeks had a nurse constantly at his bedside. The end was
not unexpected as it was known for some time by the relatives that he
could not recover.
Deceased was born in County Clare, Ireland, in 1835, and came to
America with his parents in 1853. They settled in Scott county, this
state, where in 1863 he was married to Miss Bridget Meehan, the marriage
being performed in Davenport. Seven children were born to this union,
the children being J. H. Talty and J. W. Talty of Massena, T. M. Talty
of Atlantic, M.E. Talty of Neola, George Talty, Jr. of Adair, Mrs.
Martha Hickey of Adair. One daughter, Loretta Agnes, died on May 21,
1889, at the age of seven years. In 1871 Mr. Talty came to Atlantic and
shortly thereafter moved to a farm in Pymosa township, where they lived
till 1877, when they moved to Anita and in 1892 at Anita his wife died.
In 1894 he removed to this city and to the home where he died. In that
year he was married to Miss Margaret Ryan, who with five children
survives him. The children by this marriage are Wm. B. Talty, Margaret
L. Talty, Leo F. Talty, Maurice H. Talty and James L. Talty, all at home.
The funeral services are to be held at nine o'clock tomorrow
morning at the Catholic church and the interment made in the Atlantic
Catholic cemetery where his first wife is buried. Deceased was a man who
lived his life honestly and cleanly. His passing is mourned by all who knew him.
