Obituary

  The ranks of our bright young ladies were again broken last Friday morning by the death of Miss Emma Taubman. She was the daughter of Henry and Maloa Taubman and was born Jan. 10, 1869. Her whole life had been spent in this city. The only daughter, she was greatly cherished by her father and her five brothers - all older than herself. Her mother died when Miss Emma was but three years of age - unable to remember her, yet her heart was full of tenderest love for the vanished life. Early womanhood found her ready to meet the duties of her home. Her hands were skillful, her mind clear, her disposition affectionate, and her father's beautiful home was full of comfort because of her.
  "The blessings of her quiet life
    Fell on us like the dew;
   And good thoughts when her footsteps rest
     Like fairy blossoms grew."

  For a year disease had made invisible inroads on her physical life; for two months its strokes were strong and swift. It finished its work. The funeral services were at the home on last Sunday, conducted by Rev. J. G. Van Ness, amid a crowd of sympathizing friends and a veritable garden of flowers. A loving sister, a dutiful daughter, and affectionate friend, has retired from the world.
(August 10, 1889)

Note: Died 9 August 1889, age 20. Buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa.
