Auburn - Ben Thobe, 68, of Auburn died at Stewart Memorial
Hospital in Lake City Saturday afternoon, Aug. 29, after a year's illness.
Requiem mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Edward Fandel at
10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Auburn, of which Mr.
Thobe was a member. Burial will be in the parish cemetery under
direction of the Huffman Memorial Chapel of Lake City, where the rosary
will be recited at 8 p.m. Monday.
Mr. Thobe was born Dec. 22, 1902, at Mt. Carmel, a son of Joseph
and Mary Wempe Thobe. His marriage to Rose Geier took place at Breda on
Aug. 28, 1928, and they have lived in Auburn for 21 years. He had been
employed for a number of years by Putbrese Seed and Feed Company in
Auburn, but was retired.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Raymond of South Bend,
Ind., and Larry, at home; three daughters, Mrs. James (Irene) Hadju and
Mrs. Herbert (Lorraine) Marsh, Freeport, Ill.; and Mrs. James (Lois)
McBride, Elverta, Calif.; also 14 grandchildren and one sister, Mrs.
Lawrence Ludwig of Odebolt.
One grandchild and a brother preceded him in death.

Lake City - Requiem mass for Ben Thobe, 68, of Auburn was held
Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Auburn. Rev.
Edward Fandel was celebrant. Pallbearers were David Ortner, Clem Orth,
Kenneth Garnatz, Donald Ortner, Orville Geier, and Wayne Vonnahme.
Burial was in the parish cemetery at Auburn, in charge of the Huffman
Memorial Chapel, Lake City.
He died Saturday, August 29, at Stewart Memorial Hospital, Lake
City, after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, two sons, three
daughters, one sister, and 14 grandchildren.
