Helen F. Thorpe
Helen F. Thorpe, age 93, of Carnarvon, Iowa passed away on
Saturday, October 28, 2006, at the Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake, Iowa.
Helen was born on May 8, 1913 in Carnarvon, Iowa, the daughter of
Arthur Enis and Florence Gray (Powell) Mason. She attended Lake View
schools and graduated from the Lake View High School.
On January 18, 1932, Helen was united in marriage to Roland
Lester Thorpe in Early, Iowa. To this union four children were born,
Denzel, Doug, Dennis, and Delphine. The couple enjoyed 54 years of
married life and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the
Lakewood Ballroom in January of 1982. This event in her life was one
that she would always remember.
Helen was a member of the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in
Carnarvon where she took part in all its activities.
In her early years Helen enjoyed golf, gardening, canning,
dancing, and visiting with friends and relatives. Other interests
included crocheting, playing cards, watching TV (especially the golf
tournaments), and she assisted the church ladies in serving lunch at
Twilight Acres, becoming a resident there in October of 19, 1998.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons and their wives,
Denzel and Carol Thorpe of Lake View, Iowa and Doug and Pat Thorpe of
Sac City, Iowa and her daughter Delphine Borron of Aurora, Colorado.
Helen is also survived by her 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren,
and six great great grandchildren; along with her two brothers, Jerry
Mason of Marshalltown, Iowa and Arthur Mason of Fort Dodge, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents: husband, Roland on
November 14, 1986; infant son, Dennis; ;three brothers, Bob, Jay, and
Jimmy Joe Mason: and 2 sisters, Thelma Lovette and Edith Funk. Her
son-in-law, Darrell Borron, grandson, Troy Borron and great grandson,
Brandon Borron also precede her in death.
