Lee A. Thorpe
Lee Arthur Thorpe, son of Frank and Theresa Thorpe was born
January 15, 1893 at Early and passed away Saturday, April 2, at Buena
Vista County hospital after a lengthy illness. He attended the Early
schools and there grew to manhood.
He was married to Olga Nelson at Schaller on December25, 1913 and
they began their married life as residents of Storm Lake, where they
have made their home ever since.
For some time Mr. Thorpe was employed by the McCreary Creamery.
Later he worked as a contractor in partnership with his son, Dick. His
last regular employment was with the city of Storm Lake water department.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Francis.
Survivors
Surviving are his wife, Olga; two daughters, Pauline Sorenson and
Catherine McDiarmid, both of Storm Lake; one son, Richard of El Cajon,
Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. J. T. Level of El Paso, Texas and Mrs. Lillie
Adams of Schaller; four brothers, Merrill of Lake View, Lyle of Des
Moines, Roland of Carnarvon, and Lamont of Winterset; five grandchildren
and six great-grandchildren, also many other relatives and friends.
Joined Church
Mr. Thorpe was a well known figure in the Storm Lake community.
He was baptized and became a member of the Storm Lake Church of Christ
many years ago during the ministry of Pastor E. M. Johnson. He greatly
regretted his inability to attend church during his illness the past months.
He enjoyed traveling and dearly loved his home and appreciated
its comforts. He was an affectionate husband and father and will be
deeply missed by his large circle of friends and acquaintances. Services
Memorial services were held April 5 in the Church of Christ with
Rev. Alvin Giese officiating. Mrs. Leonard Callison, soloist and Mrs.
Alvin Giese, organist, furnished music.
Attendants were Richard Thomas, John Galbraith, Forrest Hausman,
Sam McConkey, Don Barels and Wally Case. Interment was in the Buena
Vista Memorial Park under direction of Hughes-Nelson funeral home.
