Merrill A. Thorpe

  Lake View - Merrill A. Thorpe, 84, died at his home here Monday, July 14. He was a retired superintendent of the Lake View Gravel Company and a former Lake View city councilman.
  Rites will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Farber and Otteman Funeral Home, Lake View, with burial in the Early Union Cemetery at Early. The Rev. George Brighton will officiate. Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
  Mr. Thorpe, son of Frank and Theresa Schneider Thorpe, was born at Nemaha April 17, 1891. He served two terms on the city council. He retired from his position with the gravel firm in 1956. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Lake View and the Abu Bekr Shrine at Sioux City.
  Survivors include his wife, Emma; three children. Mrs. E. J. (Genevieve) Reinart, Ervin and Sherman, all of Lake View; nine grandchildren , 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Roland Thorpe of Carnarvon and LaMont Thorpe of Winterset.
  Pallbearers at the rites will be Sherman Higgins, Paul Simon, Vernon Wicker, Don Tjaden, Eugene Christian and Dale Cates.

Merrill Thorpe funeral service set for Thursday

  Services for Merrill Thorpe will be held Thursday, July 17, at 10:30 a.m. at the Farber and Otteman Funeral Home, Lake View.
  Masonic services will be held Wednesday (tonight) at 8:00 p.m. Masons will meet at the Lodge Hall at 7:30.
  Merrill passed away suddenly Monday, July 14.

Merrill A. Thorpe

  Funeral services for Merrill A. Thorpe, 84, of Lake View, were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 17, at the Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Lake View.
  The Rev. George Brighton officiated, and Mrs. LaGene Holdcroft provided the organ music. Mrs. Ralph Liston and Mrs. James Wilson were in charge of the floral arrangements.
  Casket bearers were Sherman Higgins, Paul Simon, Vernon Wicker, Don Tjaden, Eugene Christian and Dale Cates.
  Interment was made in Union Cemetery at Early, Iowa.
Mr. Thorpe passed away at his home on Monday evening, July 14.
  Merrill A. Thorpe was born April 17, 1891 near Nemaha, the son of Frank and Theresa Schneider Thorpe.
  On May 1, 1912, he was married to Emma Taubman of Schaller. The couple observed their 63rd wedding anniversary on May 1 this year.
  Mr. Thorpe was superintendent of the Lake View Gravel Company until his retirement in 1956. He served two terms as City Councilman, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Abu Bekar Shrine in Sioux City.
  Survivors include his widow, Emma, of Lake View; two sons, Ervin and Sherman, both of Lake View; and one daughter, Mrs. E.J. (Genevieve) Reinart of Lake View; nine grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Also two brothers, Roland of Carnarvon and LaMont of Winterset.
  He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lee, Francis and Lyle; and four sisters, Eva, May, Lillian and Agnes.
