Sheila Kay Thorpe
Sheila Thorpe, age 71, of Sac City, IA, formerly of Lake View, IA,
passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at Loring Hospital in Sac City, IA.
A celebration of life service will be held on May 13, 2011 at 11 am at
Lakes United Methodist Church in Lake View.
Sheila Kay Thorpe was born to parents Ervin and Geraldine (Hubler)
Thorpe on January 31, 1940, in Carroll, IA. She grew up in Des Moines,
IA, and graduated from Roosevelt High School with the class of 1958.
Following graduation and throughout her life, she lived in many
wonderful places including Eureka Springs, Arkansas where she was a
successful business owner of a Bed and Breakfast.
In 1992 she moved back to northwest Iowa where she began her
career as a dental assistant working for Lake View Family Dentistry. In
2005, she became the primary caregiver to her mother Geraldine. They
were both blessed to have spent the last five years together. Sheila was
an award-winning photographer. She also enjoyed gardening, working
around her yard, scrapbooking, and most of all spending time with her
grandson Dyllan.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Bret Boreman of
Los Angeles, California, daughter Shannon (Don) Mahannah of Lake View;
grandson Dyllan Mahannah; her mother Geraldine Thorpe of Sac City, IA;
brother Gary (Barbara) Thorpe of MO; and several nieces and nephews,
extended family and many friends. She will be dearly missed by all those
that knew and loved her. Sheila is proceeded in death by her father
Ervin Thorpe; grandparents Merrill and Emma Thorpe; and Bill and Ollie Hubler.
The family requests donations be made to the Susan G. Komen
Breast Cancer Foundation.
Memorial Service: Friday, 11:00 a.m. May 13, 2011 at Lakes United
Methodist Church, Lake View, IA
Interment: Private Family Burial March 18, 2011 at Early Union
