Mrs. Frank Thorpe a pioneer resident of this community died at the home of her daughter Mrs. J. D. Level, Sac City on Saturday, August 25, 1928, at the age of 61 years, 6 months and 3 days. Funeral services were held at the Level home Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock and the body was brought to Early where services were held from the Presbyterian church at 2:30 o'clock, the Rev. J. L Whitney officiating. A ladies quartet composed of Misses Irene Kirkpatrick, Harriet Huston, Lucille Wagner and Lola Lenz, accompanied by Mrs. Mary Huston on the piano sang, "Beautiful Isle of Some Where, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Blessed Light of Home." The pall bearers were Del Wolford, W. R. Bleasdell, Frank and Claire Armagost, Emery Schneider and Elmer Sanders, nephews of the deceased. Burial was made in the Early Union Cemetery.
Mrs. Thorpe was born in Rochester, N. Y. on February 23, 1867, and when 16 years old accompanied her parents to Sac county and settled on a farm three miles Northeast of Early. Two years later she was married to Francis Thorpe of this vicinity and to this union ten children were born namely: Agnes (Mrs. Fred Christianson) who died 10 years ago and Mae (Mrs. J. D. Level, Sac City), Lillie (Mrs. Jesse Adams, Nemaha), Eva, who died at the age of three months, Murl and Francis of Lake View, Lyle and Rolland of Des Moines, Lee of Storm Lake, and Lamont at home. These with the father survive her. She also leaves two sisters Mrs. Joe O'Kief or Rochester, N. Y., and Mrs. Oliver Stock of Spooner, Wisconsin, and two brothers Peter and George Schneider of Early, and 15 grand children. A brother Michael Schneider of Sioux City died about two years ago.
Mrs. Thorpe was a woman of high merits, a devoted mother always seeking the interest of her family and never tiring of serving them, and a true and devoted friend of everyone. For four years she held the responsible position of cook for the Consolidate school cafeteria, where she won the affection of all the teachers and pupils, and all speak praises for her enduring patience in trying to please them. Mrs. Thorpe will be missed not only by her friends, but greatly so in her home, and especially by her brother George Schneider whom she had given constant care for 31 years. Her illness which proved fatal, has been gaining her strength for several years, but only for the past year, has it become serious and to many, her life was thought to be but a question of time. She was always ready to help in homes of sickness, church or wherever she found her assistance was needed, and attended church whenever her duties were not hindrances. Many beautiful floral pieces deftly signified the tokens of friendship.
Relatives and friends who attended the funeral from away were: Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Level and three children, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis and Mrs. Luther Chriss of Sac City; Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Adams and two children, Mr. and Mrs. Claire Armagost, Frank Armagost, Wilbur and Aubrey Sanders of Nemaha; Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Thorp and three children, and Francis Thorpe, Lake View; Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Thorpe and three children and Roland Thorpe of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Lee Thorpe and three children of Storm Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hollingsworth, Mrs. Harry Davenport, Mr. Peter Mickelson and sister Nova of Wilton, N.
