Vernon Titterington
Vernon L. Titterington, 90, of Reynolds, died Monday, Dec. 24,
2007, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport.
Services for Mr. Titterington will be 11 a.m. Friday at the
Edgington Presbyterian Church, Edgington. Visitation will begin at 9
a.m., two hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in
the Edgington Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer
Society. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan, is
assisting the family with arrangements.
Vern was born June 25, 1917, in rural Edgington, the son of Emmet
and Eva Attig-Titterington. He married Dorothy Peterson on Aug. 1, 1943, in Galva.
Vern graduated from Kewanee High School and attended Black Hawk
College. He was a farmer, machinist and experienced businessman, managed
the Taylor Ridge Elevator and retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1984.
Vern served as an elder, trustee and Sunday school teacher at
Edgington Presbyterian Church. He led the Edgington Go Getters 4-H club
for many years and was a life member of the Masons for 60 years. He
enjoyed horses and dancing.
Dad was dedicated to his family and encouraging to everyone. He
loved life, never stopped dreaming and inventing, always had an
infectious smile and lived the golden rule.
Heartfelt thanks go to the staffs of Bickford Cottage, Davenport,
and Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, for the deeply personal care
they provided to Dad.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Dean and Cindy
Titterington, Englewood, Colo., Gary and Phyllis Titterington, Castle
Rock, Colo., Annette and Michael Johnston, Bettendorf; grandchildren,
Ryan, Preston, Alison, Melissa, Amanda, Brian and Kevin;
great-grandchildren, Kyle and Taylor; a brother, Lloyd Titterington,
Edgington.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Dorothy.
