Mrs. George Tracey

After many months of patient suffering Mrs. George Tracey passed away at the family home four miles south of Corning last Friday, January 13th. Mrs. Tracey had been in very poor health for a long time and last fall underwent an operation with the hopes of relief but physicians found that her condition was beyond medical aid. She gradually lost strength until the end finally came last Friday. She was aged 53 years, 11 months, and 6 days.
Catherine Alice, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Nesbit, was born in La Salle, Illinois, August 2, 1873. Two years after her birth the family came to this county where they became identified with the building up of the community during the early days. On Christmas day, 1891, she was married at Lenox to George Tracey and they at once started housekeeping on a farm in Taylor county where they resided until 1901. In that year they moved to Adams county and located on the farm south of Corning which has since been their home. Eight children, five boys and three girls were born to Mr. and Mrs. Tracey. They are James, Hugh, Francis, Arthur and Miss Mildred at home and Mrs. John McEniry of Lenox and Mrs. John Curry of Massena and George, at Milestone, Sask., Canada. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Glenn, Elizabeth and Geraldine McEniry and Mary Belle Curry. Mrs. Tracey's living brothers are Ed Nesbit of Omaha, Charles of Corning and Frank and George of Streator, Illinois.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at 9:00 o'clock from St. Patrick's Catholic church of this city and the Requiem Mass was read by the pastor, Rev. Father M. J. Powers. Interment was made in Calvary cemetery.
Mrs. Tracey was a lady of fine and noble character, loved and esteemed by all who knew her. She was devoted to her family and leaves with her husband and children the memory of years of devotion and care for her loved ones. She was a good neighbor and always sacrificed her time and energy to help those in distress in time of misfortune and sickness. She will be sadly missed in the home and the community.
Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs. John Murphy, James Tracey, Misses Mary and Laura Tracey, all of Dubuque. They are sister, brother and nieces, respectively of George Tracey. Also Mrs. James Greenwood of Dubuque, Ed Nesbit and wife of Omaha and Frank Nesbit of Streator, Illinois.
