George I. Tracey
George I. Tracey, son of George and Mary Ann Quigley Tracey
was born in Dubuque county, Iowa, April 20th, 1866 and passed away at
his home south of Corning, January 21, 1951. Mr. Tracey had been ill
with a heart ailment for the past five years, which resulted in his death.
He was one of seven children, preceded in death by his parents,
two sisters, Mrs. James Greenwood, and Mrs. John Murphy, James, John and
Hugh Tracey. One sister, Mrs. Ed Hogan, mourns with his family.
Mr. Tracey came to Adams county in 1886. In 1891 he was married
to Catherine Nesbit, in Lenox, and to this union, eight children were
born. His beloved wife preceded him in death January 13, 1928, as also a
daughter, Mrs. Mary McEniry in August 1929, and a son Arthur, June 3,
1938. He leaves to mourn his loss two daughters, Mildred, Violet Curry,
and four sons, James, Hugh and Francis, all of Corning and George of
California; five grandchildren, Mary Belle Curry, Ogden, Utah, Gerald
Curry, Council Bluffs, Mrs. Leo Schappmeyer, Hot Springs, Ark., Mrs. Leo
Agelage, Ft. Laramie, Ohio, and J. J. McEniry, of Kearney, Nebraska; six
great grandchildren, a son-in-law, Joe Curry, two brothers-in-law,
Charles and Ed Nesbit, many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held in St. Patrick's Church, Corning,
Tuesday a. m., Jan. 23rd, at 10:00 o'clock, High Mass sung by Rev. M. J.
Powers. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Pall bearers were Lewis Cotter,
James Keefe, Walter Jones, Ed Talty, Joe Hatton and Arthur Colgan.
Attending from out-of-town were Mrs. Hugh Tracy, Mrs. E. V. Wood
and Joseph Greenwood, of Farley, Iowa, James Greenwood of Monticello,
Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Murphy, Ryan, Iowa, Mrs. Ike Lu…, Mr. and
Mrs. Sam Wurster, Mrs. Lee Boyten and Linda Cain, all of Lenox and Mrs.
Tom Walsh and Thomas of Creston.
Mr. Tracey was one of the fine … farmers of this community, having
lived in the general vicinity…
