Breda Man Found Dead
Breda - Augustine Underberg, 56, was found dead Friday morning
in his living quarters above a Breda barbershop. Following a report that
Underberg had not been seen since Wednesday evening, Dr. Roland B.
Morrison, Carroll County medical examiner, and Carroll County Deputy
Sheriff John Hays investigated, finding the Breda man's body on a bed in
a smoke-filled room.
Dr. Morrison reported that flames from a bottle-gas stove were
approximately two feet high. He said that Mr. Underberg probably died
accidentally of asphyxiation and that he had been dead since Wednesday
night or Thursday morning.
Mr. Underberg was employee by the Heisterkamp Auto company.
Funeral arrangements are being made at the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda.
Surviving are his wife, Alma; six children, Thomas and Judy Ann
of Des Moines; James, with the Air Force in New York City; Ted, Mike and
Harlan all at home; also two sisters Sr. M. Raphalle of LaCrosse Wis.,
and Mrs. Charles Lens, Rock Rapids; and one brother Conrad Underberg of Sparta, Wis.

Augustine Underberg
Breda - Requiem mass was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in
St. Bernard's Church here for Augustine Underberg, 56, of Breda, who was
found dead at his home in Breda Friday morning.
The Rev. Donald Ries officiated. Pallbearers were Jim Ulveling, Gerald
Van Erdewyk, Delmer Bruning, Duane Boeckman, Robert Heisterkamp and
Arthur Schulte. Burial was in Out Lady of Mr. Carmel Cemetery, Mt.
Carmel, under direction of the Sharp Funeral Home of Breda.
Mr. Underberg was the son of Valentine and Mary Schaefer
Underberg, and was born Aug. 12, 1912 at Halbur. As a young child he
moved to Mt. Carmel with his parents. His marriage to Alma Bruning took
place July 1, 1942, at St. Bernard's Church here with the late Rev.
Lawrence Greteman officiating. They made their home in Breda, where Mr.
Underberg was a mechanic for the Breda Auto Company.
Surviving are his wife, six children, two sisters and one brother.
