Mary Venable
Mary R. Venable, 70, of Bettendorf, died Wednesday, March 7,
2007, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Visitation is noon until 2 p.m. Saturday at the Wheelan-Pressly
Funeral Home, Milan. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. at the
Edgington Cemetery, Edgington. Memorials may be made to the American
Heart Association or to the National Arthritis Foundation.
The former Mary Dowd was born May 3, 1936, in Preemption
Township, Ill., a daughter of Harry J. and Harriet A. Beard Dowd. She
married George Conrad Andrews Aug. 3, 1956, in Rock Island. She later
married L. James Venable, April 20, 1973, in Bettendorf.
Mary attended Illinois State University, Normal, where she
pursued an education in teaching. She was a self-employed child-care
provider, caring for children in her home. She previously worked in the
accounting department at Royal Neighbors of America.
She was a member of Asbury Methodist Church, Bettendorf. Mary
loved teaching the children she cared for.
Survivors include her husband, James; daughter, Constance Lynne
Gaguski, Lawrenceville, Ga.; sons, Mark A. Andrews, Davenport, and
Michael L. Andrews and his wife, Jody, Bettendorf; stepchildren, Colleen
Moeller and her husband, Dick, Geneseo and Richard "Rick"
Venable, Pleasant Valley; granddaughters, Sarah and Elizabeth Dau,
Lawrenceville, and Kayla Andrews, Silvis; stepgrandchildren, Stephanie
Daugherty and Melanie and Patrick Hughes, all of Bettendorf, Bryan,
Amber and Shannon Moeller, Geneseo, Tina Moeller, Davenport, and Heather
and Courtney Venable, Bettendorf; three stepgreat-grandchildren; sister,
Julia A. Baldwin, Moline; brothers, Jerold E. Dowd, Aledo, and John W.
Dowd, and a foster brother, Donald Burgess, Girard, Ill. She was
preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert M. Dowd.
