Loretta Verschoore
Loretta E. Verschoore, 98 of Taylor Ridge, died Wednesday, Aug. 1,
2001.
Services are 9:30 a.m., Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church,
Andalusia. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 3
to 8 p.m. Friday at the church, where a Christian wake service will be
conducted at 7:30 p.m. Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, is in charge
of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church
or to Alleman High School's Sports Program or Endowment Fund.
Loretta McManus was born, Oct. 25, 1902, at home in Taylor Ridge, the
daughter of Patrick and Ellen Ayers McManus. She married Arthur
Verschoore, Feb. 11, 1931, in Milan. He died, Apr. 29, 1975.
Mrs. Verschoore graduated from Reynolds High School and the Villa de
Chantal School for Girls. She attended Western Illinois Teacher's
College. In early years she taught school in the rural Edgington area.
She was the oldest member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and a member
of the Altar and Rosary Society of the church. Loretta was also a member
of the Blue Cross Medical Mission at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan.
She enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Lou Bell, Rock Island; sons and
daughters-in-law, Joseph and Jackie Verschoore, Geneseo, Paul and
Virginia Verschoore, Taylor Ridge, Donald and Karen Verschoore, Milan,
Daniel and Sharon Verschoore, Moline, Patrick and Charlene Verschoore,
Milan; 34 grandchildren and 59 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Jean
McGinnis Maloney, a granddaughter, Julie Verschoore, three sisters and
two brothers preceded her in death.
