Mass of the Christian burial for Clarence John Vonnahme of
Arcadia will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006, at St. John
Catholic Church in Arcadia.
Mr. Vonnahme, 85, died Saturday, Feb. 11, at Manning Regional
Healthcare Center.
The Revs. John Thomas and Robert Gralapp will concelebrate the
Mass. Lector will be Paul Vonnahme. Servers will be Matt Vonnahme and
Joe Vonnahme. Gift bearers will be Krista Berger, Karen Vonnahme, Lisa
Scott and Jill Vonnahme.
Casket bearers will be Mr. Vonnahme’s grandchildren: Maria
Vonnahme, Eddie Vonnahme, Jeff Vonnahme, Brian Wittrock, Nick Berger and
Amber Vonnahme.
Burial will be at 1 p.m. in Sacred Heart Cemetery at Manning with
Rev. Gralapp officiating.
Visitation started at 3 and the family led a rosary at 4 this
afternoon at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. There will be a prayer
service led by the Rev. John Thomas at 7 tonight at the funeral home.
A son of Henry and Sophia (Odendahl) Vonnahme, he was born Dec.
12, 1920, at Mount Carmel. After completing his schooling in Mount
Carmel and because his father had died, he helped his mother work the family farm.
He and Caroline Irlmeier were married Feb. 5, 1947, at Sacred
Heart Catholic Church in Templeton with Monsignor Huesmann officiating.
They had six children and raised grain and livestock on a farm
three miles north of Manning. Mr. Vonnahme also did custom tiling in the area.
The Vonnahmes belonged to Sacred Heart Parish in Manning. Mr.
Vonnahme served on the parish council during building of the CCD Center.
He enjoyed attending livestock auctions and was known for his ability to witch wells.
The Vonnahmes retired after 45 years of farming, moved to Arcadia
and joined St. John Parish. Mr. Vonnahme enjoyed playing cards.
He experienced health problems following knee surgery in December 2005.
Survivors include his wife, Caroline, of Arcadia; six children:
Tom Vonnahme and his wife, Maureen, of Vail, David Vonnahme and his
wife, Janice, of Westside, Don Vonnahme and his wife, Teresa, of
Manning, Nancy Wittrock and her husband, Darrell, of Audubon, Laurie
Berger and her husband, Melvin, of Westside and Mike Vonnahme and his
wife, Pat, of Manning; 26 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a
brother, Erwin Vonnahme, and his wife, Rita, of Arcadia; a sister,
Teresa Kasperbauer, of Templeton; and five sisters-in-law: Rita Stangl
of Manning, Delores Vonnahme of Mount Carmel, Cecelia Vonnahme of Mount
Carmel, Catherine Irlmeier of Manning and Mary Ann Irlmeier of Templeton.
Mr. Vonnahme was preceded in death by his parents; two infant
grandchildren: Steven and Scott Wittrock; four brothers: Fred, Carl and
Ray Vonnahme, and Ferdinand Vonnahme in youth; three sisters: Gertrude
Vonnahme, Margaret Wieland and Rita Nepple; a sister-in-law, Bertha
Vonnahme; and four brothers-in-law: Art Wieland, Norbert Wieland, Al
Nepple and Paul Kasperbauer.
