Bernard Walker Dies at Ottumwa
J. Bernard Walker, 53 of Martinsburg died early this morning
at St. Joseph's hospital in Ottumwa. He had entered the hospital
Saturday and underwent an emergency operation Sunday. Mr. Walker was
formerly a resident of Ainsworth and Washington communities.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 9:30 o'clock in
the St. James Catholic church. Rosary will be recited at Sherman's
funeral home Thursday evening at eight o'clock. Burial will be in Elm
Grove Cemetery.
Born June 5, 1895 near Ainsworth, Mr. Walker was the son of James
and Margaret (Swift) Walker. He was reared and educated in the Ainsworth
and Washington communities and was married Feb 10, 1923 to Helen Albaugh.
Before going to Martinsburg about four years ago he was engaged
in farming in Washington county. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic
church in Sigourney and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Walker was
a veteran of world war I.
Survivors include his wife and five children, all at home: Urban,
Margaret, Ann, James and Mary Alice; one sister, Mrs. Frank Wheelan,
Cincinnati, Ohio; and two brothers Hubert of Washington and Gerald
(Jack) of St. Louis, Missouri.

Walker Funeral
Funeral services for J. Bernard Walker were held Friday
morning at 9:30 in the St. James church with Rev. Jamer Markin of
Sigourney in charge. Members of the V. F. W. and auxiliary attended the
services in a body. Pallbearers were Everette Swift, E. R. Durham, Cleo
Shockley, Elmer Merit, John Stein and Ned Wood. Sherman's funeral home
was in charge of arrangements and burial was in Elm Grove cemetery.
