Funeral Services to Be Held at St. James Church--Dies at Home

Mrs. Susie E. Wheelan, wife of Thomas Wheelan, died at two
o'clock this morning at her home, 421 West Main Street. She had been in
failing health for the last six months and had been bedfast two weeks.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 at St.
James Catholic church, followed by burial in Elm Grove cemetery. The
rosary will be recited at Sherman's funeral home Friday evening at 8:45.
It is announced that the casket will not be opened at the church.
Mrs. Wheelan, who had been a resident of this community since
1908, was born in New York, Oct. 4, 1863, the only child of Neil and
Bridget Duffy. From New York she came to Keithsburg, Ill., where she
spent about 30 years. At that place she was married to Thomas Wheelan on
Jan 27, 1886.
After their removal to Washington county their home was on a farm
six miles north of Washington until 1919, when they removed to their
home in Washington.
She was a member of St. James church and of the Altar and Rosary
society of the local parish, and a charter member of the Daughters of
Isabella. Her interests were largely centered in her home and family and
in her church.
Surviving her are her husband and five children: Mrs. M. H. Mack
of Reynolds, Ill., John H. Wheelan of Washington, Frank N. of Buffalo, N.Y., Clarence J. of Cedar
Rapids, and Mrs. Herbert Shockley of Dayton Ohio. There are 19
