Thomas Wheelan Dies at Dubuque
Thomas A. Wheelan of Washington, 82 years of age, died this morning at 6:15 at St.
Joseph's sanitarium at Dubuque where he had been in failing health for a
number of months.
Funeral services will be held next Monday morning at nine o'clock
at St. James Catholic church, in charge of Father Urban, who is taking
the place of Rev. H.J. Corcoran, pastor of the church, who is on
vacation. Mr. Wheelan was a member of St. James church.
The rosary will be recited at Sherman's funeral home Sunday
evening at 8:30. Burial will be in Elm Grove cemetery.
Mr. Wheelan was born Dec. 1, 1860, near Little York, Ill., a son
of James and Margaret (Moore) Wheelan. He was reared in that community
and was married Jan. 27, 1886, at Keithsburg, Ill., to Susie E. Duffy.
They lived near Keithsburg until 1908, when they moved to a farm
north of Washington, making their home there until they came to
Washington in 1919.
Surviving him are five children, Mrs. M.H. Mack of Reynolds,
Ill., John H. Wheelan of Washington, Frank of Buffalo, N.Y., Clarence of
Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Herbert Shockley of St. Paul, Minn. He also leaves
19 grandchildren, and one half brother, George Hollingrake of Keithsburg, Ill.
