Donald H. Whelan, 84, formerly of Ridgewood, died on
Jan. 20.
Saddlebrooke, Ariz. - He served with the U.S. Navy during
World War II. He attended the University of Grenoble and the Sorbonne in
France on the GI bill. He then earned a bachelor's degree from the
School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.
He was president of international operations with Camloc Inc. -
Rexnord Inc. At age 61, he retired and studied at the University of
Arizona before conducting archeological field work, including research
in western China in the Kunlun desert region.
He is survived by Dru Whelan and Paul Azevedo, Frannie Whelan and
Mark Schlipf, Maggie and Susie Tweedy, Blair Carswell and Daphne Gomez
Mena. He was predeceased by his wife, Sue (nee Robinson).
A "celebration of his life" was held in Port Townsend, Wa.
