Whitcher Rites Held Wednesday

  Funeral services for M. L. Whitcher, 80, who died at his home Sunday night, were conducted Wednesday afternoon from first Methodist church. Rev. J. L. DeGarmo officiated and interment was in West Union cemetery. Pallbearers were Ross Whitcher, Floyd Whitcher, Ralph Whitcher, West Union; Emory Barton, Vernon Barton, Wyoming, Ill.; Lavern Crew, Jesup. Burnham-Wood funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
  Milton Leroy Whitcher, son of Henry Hancock and Jennette Pratt Whitcher, was born May 28, 1881 in Illinois. He moved to Independence with his parents in 1902. In 1911, he moved to a farm northwest of West Union, and has lived in this vicinity since.
  On April 16, 1913, he married Lulu Crew. They were the parents of one daughter, Marvel, now Mrs. L. S. Buchanan, Cedar Rapids.
  Surviving besides his wife and daughter are a granddaughter, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Herbert Whitcher, West Union, also 13 nieces and nephews. His parents, two brothers, William Franklin and Henry Herbert; two sisters, Harriet Murray and Mabel Barton preceded him in death.
