Norman Terry Winchester, 79, of Carroll died Monday, Nov. 24,
2008, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 28, at First
United Methodist Church in Carroll.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 and a Masonic memorial service will be
held at 7:30 Thursday night at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll.
Casket bearers will be Paul Winchester, Matt Winchester, Josh
Happe, Jason Happe, Jake Happe and Greg Winchester. The casket will be
moved to the church at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in Carroll Cemetery.
A son of William Elbert and Helen Marie (Wight) Winchester, he
was born July 16, 1929, at Rogers, Ark., and graduated from Henderson
(Iowa) High School in 1947.
He and Norma Allensworth were married July 29, 1949, at Henderson.
Mr. Winchester worked for Singer Sewing Machine Co., KCIM radio
station and Wilson Trailer Co. before owning and operating Winchester
Real Estate in Carroll.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Men's Club, Signet
Masonic Lodge of Carroll, Carroll Jaycees and Carroll Kiwanis Club, and
he enjoyed playing cards, golfing, and traveling.
Survivors include his wife, Norma, of Carroll; a son, Gregory
Winchester, and his wife, Sandra, of Ankeny; a daughter Teri Happe, of
Ankeny; five grandsons: Paul Winchester, Matt Winchester, Josh Happe and
wife Jen, Jason Happe and wife Shelby and Jake Happe; two brothers:
Elbert Winchester of Council Bluffs and James Winchester and wife Annie
of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two sisters-in-law: Betty Raney and husband
Charles of Bella Vista, Ark., and Donna Loth and husband Lee of Omaha,
Neb.; two brothers-in-law: Douglas Allensworth and wife Carol of Red Oak
and Craig Allensworth and wife Linda of Carson.
Mr. Winchester was preceded in death by his parents; a
son-in-law, Jim Happe; three sisters: Geneva Erickson, Eva Jane Wallace,
and Josephine Kannell; and a brother-in-law, Vance Allensworth.
