Mrs. H. L. Wittrig dies here
Mrs. H. L. Wittrig, 80, of 215 South Avenue D died at the
Washington County Hospital Saturday, April 6, 1974. She had not been
well for several years and seriously ill the last ten days.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Jones Funeral
Home with the Rev. Leland Grove in charge. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery.
Elizabeth Alma Swift was born Oct. 29, 1893, in Washington
County, a daughter of George T. Swift and Phoebe Orvilla Lindsey. She
was reared in the Pleasant Hill community and attended the Burlington
Academy for Dressmaking. She was married Dec. 22, 1913, to Howard L.
Wittrig and they had observed their 61st anniversary in 1973.
She joined the Pleasant Hill Christian Church in 1906 and was
very active there having taught a Sunday School class for many years.
She also was a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship.
Surviving are her husband; one son, Raymond of Cedar Rapids; one
daughter, Mrs. Charles (Clara) Cannon of Cedar Rapids; one grandson, one
granddaughter and four great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Ettiene Spenler, Mrs. Ruth
Schneider and Mrs. Dale (Gertrude) Darbyshire, all of Washington; two
half-sisters: Mrs. Louise (Wilbur) Harter of Washington and Mrs. Lydia
Kane of West Branch.
One sister and two brothers preceded her in death.

Briefs
Wittrig.-Funeral services for Mrs. Howard (Elizabeth Alma) Wittrig
were held Tuesday at the Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. Leland Grove
officiating. Casketbearers were Claire Keating, Ralph McCreedy, Clark
Smith, Lyle Darbyshire, Allen Darbyshire, and Charles Hanna. Burial was
in Elm Grove Cemetery.
