Mass of the Christian burial for Raphael "Ray"
Wolterman of Carroll will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 1998, at
Holy Spirit Church in Carroll.
Mr, Wolterman, 63, longtime owner of Wolterman Distributing in
Carroll, died this morning, Monday, March 23, 1998, at St. Anthony
Regional Hospital in Carroll.
The Rev. James McCormick will officiate the Mass. Lector will be
Russ Steinkamp. Gift bearers will be Mr. Wolterman's daughters: Peggy
Carlson and Beth Wenck. Server will be Katie Steinkamp, Eucharistic
ministers will be Mildred McCoy and Lucy Wolterman.
Casket bearers will be Dick O'Tool, Ervin Loneman, Ernie Wegman,
Eugene Kennebeck, Pat O'Donnell and Virgil Christianson. Honorary casket
bearers will be Leo and Leonard Petersohn.
Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military
honors by Maurice Dunn American Legion Post No. 7 of Carroll.
Friends will call after 2:30 and a rosary will be prayed at 3
Tuesday afternoon at Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. Holy Spirit Parish
will hold a Christian wake service at 7:30 and the Carroll Knights of
Columbus will recite a rosary at 8:15 Tuesday night at the funeral home.
A son of A. J. and Elizabeth (Schulte) Wolterman, he was born
June 9, 1934, at Breda and spent his younger years in that community,
attending St. Bernard School.
Mr. Wolterman joined the Army in May 1957, was married to Arlene Thelen
Oct. 19, 1957, at the Fort Chaffee, Ark., base chapel; was stationed at
Fort Sill, Okla.; and was discharged in May 1959.
The family moved to Carroll, where Mr. Wolterman was employed by
Kingston Distributing Co.
He bought the company.in 1963 and operated it as Wolterman
Distributing. The business distributed Sealtest Ice Cream, Meadow Gold
Ice Cream, Kemp's Ice Cream and Wells Blue Bunny Ice Cream until Mr.
Wolterman retired in 1996.
He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, its Men's Club, the
Knights of Columbus and United Commercial Travelers.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene, of Carroll; five children:
Peggy Carlson and her husband, Rick, of Ute, Daryl Wolterman of Omaha,
Neb., Beth Wenck and her husband, Lynn, of Lidderdale, Todd Wolterman
and his wife, Terri, of Omaha and Craig Wolterman and his wife, Michele,
of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild; two
brothers: Wilbur Wolterman and his wife, Helen, of Carroll and Joe
Wolterman and his wife, Lucy, of Jefferson; four sisters: Mildred McCoy
and her husband, Jesse, of Fonda, Bernice Steinkamp and her husband,
Melvin, of Arcadia, Elsie Koster and her husband, Kermit, of Lake View
and Darlene Koster and her husband, Roger, of Elkader; and three
sisters-in-law: Nelda Wolterman of Canroll, Rita Wolterman of Adams,
Minn., and Jean Wolterman of Washington state.
Mr. Wolterman was preceded in death by his parents: four
brothers: Lester, Harold, Elmer and Richard Wolterman; a sister, Mania
Neppl; two brothers-in-law: Melvin Noelhe and Art Neppl; and his
parents-in-law: Raymond and Barbara Thelen.
