Bertha B. Young
Bertha B. Young, 81, of Monmouth, died 9:15 AM, Sunday, July
26, 2009, at the Marigold Nursing Center, Galesburg.
She was born September 28, 1927 in Hale Township, Warren Co. the
daughter of John and Kate (Whelen) Oaks. She was raised and educated in
Little York, attending Junkin School. She graduated from Little York
High School in 1945.
Bertha married John Young on April 17, 1948 at Grace Episcopal
Church in Galesburg and he died April 12, 1980.
Bertha worked at the Vickroy Furniture, the Monmouth ASC Office,
the offices of Ford, Beacon and Davis and DeWaele Floor Coverings all in
Monmouth. She enjoyed working in her yard, walking and visiting with neighbors.
She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Monmouth.
Her family includes one daughter, Jan Patricia "Trish"
(Kirk) Utsinger of Monmouth; 7 grandchildren, Amy (Juan) Hernandez of
Goleta, Ca, Jason Young of CA, Jennifer (Francis Gunsallus) Grant of
Keithsburg, IL, John Grant of Cape Coral FL, Katie (Jason) Hasten, Holly
Utsinger and Bryan Utsinger all of Monmouth; two great grandchildren,
Mellisa Limas and Benjamin Grant; one sister, Mary Katherine Lewis of
Iowa City, IA; two sister in laws, Ruth Oaks and Dorothy Oaks both of
Monmouth; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son John
Michael Young; three brothers, Johnny Oaks, Edgar Oaks and Carroll Oaks;
one nephew, J.D. Oaks.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 31, 2009 at the
Trinity Episcopal Church in Monmouth with Fr. Thomas Janikowski
officiating. Burial will be in Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth.
Friends may call Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel,
Monmouth where her family will be present from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Memorials
may be given to the St. Jude's Children Hospital.
