Robert F. Young
DAVENPORT -- Robert F. Young, 91, of Davenport, died Tuesday, August
12, 2008, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Genesis VNA, Bettendorf.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Weerts Funeral Home,
Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Rev. Scott Minteer will
officiate, along with Robert's nephew, Msgr. Tom Mack. The family will
greet friends from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral
home. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island.
Memorials may be made to Scott County YMCA or to the Unsinkable
Spirit Relief Fund to benefit local flooding victims.
Robert was born in 1917 in Crawfordsville, Iowa, a son of
Clarence and Jenny Young. After graduating from Davenport High School,
he pursued a pharmacy degree from the University of Iowa.
He served his country in the US Navy during World War II,
achieving the rank of Lieutenant JG and serving as the executive officer
on a PC boat in the Aleutian Islands.
On January 6, 1941, Robert was united in marriage to Mary
Elizabeth Mack at Holy Family Church in Davenport. They recently
celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. Robert enjoyed a 30 year
career as a pharmaceutical representative with the Upjohn Company before
retiring in 1979.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; sons, Bob Young of Davenport,
and Bill (Ruth) Young of Waterloo, Iowa; two grandchildren, Kimberly
(Bob) McCarthy of Wilmington, Ohio, and Sean (Angie) Young of Colorado
Springs, Colo.; and two great-grandchildren, Logan Mountain and Kaylee Young.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
