Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Barnes Preemption, Ill., Oct. 7. -- (Special) --
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Barnes, residents of Preemption township will
observe the 45th anniversary of their marriage Wednesday, Oct. 14. Open
house in the afternoon and evening is planned and a large number of
relatives and friends from Preemption township and from Rock Island
county are expected to visit at their farm home during the day.
Miss Hannah Norton and Thomas Barnes were married Oct. 14, 1891,
in St. Joseph's Catholic church in Rock Island with the late Rev. Mackin
pronouncing the vows. Immediately after the wedding the couple moved to
the farm in Preemption township, where they have made their home
since that time.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Barnes are members of the Preemption St. Joseph
Catholic church.
Mrs. Barnes was born near Coal Valley on Nov. 29, 1864, and Mr.
Barnes was born in Preemption township on Feb 26, 1864.
Two sons were born to this union. They are Raymond Barnes of
Reynolds and Louis Barnes at home.
Mr. Barnes is the present tax assessor of Preemption township,
having held that position several terms, and he has also served the
township as highway commissioner. (1936) |
