They ARE phasers. They just don't want to call them that. It's
laughable, really. Whereas before (=later, timewise) we had various
types of little phasers and big phasers, Enterprise has phase
*pistols* and phase *cannons*. I guess using the word "phasers"
wouldn't be different enough. The missiles and shuttle pods, now those
were neat ideas. Definitely believable as earlier technology, and not
just cheap underpowered ripoffs of later Trek tech. I kinda wish they
had stuck with the pulse weapons (IIRC) that they used in "Broken
Bow". I mean, they don't need to develop or show *every* >=TOS
technology by the end of the series for me to be satisfied. Shows are
made and broken on chracters and writing, not gimmicks. Sure, gimmicks
might get people to start watching, but they don't keep them if the
other elements fail...
