Well, it was definately a 9/11 allusion, but I can't agree about the
emotions - I saw a great lack of deep strong human emotions. The
overall attitude seemed to be "Oh, darn, isn't that a shame."
I remember the real emotions that 9/11 evoked. This attack was
thousands of times worse - shouldn't the emotional impact have been
greater?
Tripp's emotions were the closest anyone had to strong emotions. I
couldn't buy everyone else's lack of emotion. After 9/11, nearly
everyone's emotions were extreme, even if they didn't know anyone who
was killed or injured in it.
I think that sci-fi should avoid the temptation to make every event
bigger and bigger and bigger. It becomes unrealistic.
