We didn't see Surak in "Amok Time"; we saw a manifestation of him
(drawn from Spock's mind) in "The Savage Curtain." I didn't get that
this version of Surak was older than that one -- true, this one had
lighter hair, but given the sepia tone of the scenes he was in it was
hard to tell what was going on there.

I wonder why they didn't keep the Mittle Europa accent T'Pau had in
TOS.

With all these Vulcan names it's becoming more than a little
confusing, what
is the name of the Vulcan who is the ambassador to Earth that Archer
gets
angry at a lot ?????

Wouldn't that be "The Savage Curtain"?

> Archer must bear the katra of Surak

I find this katra thing confusing at best. Even when it was first
discussed in The Search for Spock. Vulcans die, and most without the
chance to transfer their essence. Look at T'Pol's mother. She didn't
transfer to her daughter. Perhaps it's an individual choice? I took
it as a plot device to bring Spock back.

Also when was Surak supposed to have been alive? I assumed it was
just post ancient times as TOS intimated the Vulcans were a logical
species for a long time before Earth contact. Yet how would have
Surak placed his katra in Syran? Are they that long lived? I didn't
think much more than 200 years more or less.

Soval's apparent turnaround is well, what I don't understand is the
trouble he caused seems meaningless now, being he SAYS he always
liked humans. Why be such an a--h--- then? Did I miss some
explanation as to why he gave Archer such problems? Starfleet? I'm
not saying I don't like his character now, it just seems a convenient
180 degree turn.

Still it was a good episode and one that showed us more of Vulcan, a
long time fan request.
