MJC Review:
The Drama -
"Help! We're under attack and we can't shoot back!" Yep. That was the kind of
first impression I got from this episode. It did seem a bit lame at first. However, as the
story began to unfold, it became a bit more interesting. There were actually some good scenes
between Reed and Trip, especially those that dealt with how to proceed with installing the
new phase canons. Read wants to be "gun-ho" and do whatever it takes to get them
on-line, while Trip wants to proceed "by-the-book". Eventually, mostly due to
yet another trek life threatening desperate situation, both work out a compromise and were
able to save the day. After all these months in deep space, viewers also got to see how
Archer was beginning to doubt his actions about going into deep space without the ship
being fully prepared. It must be very unnerving for a captain not to be able to protect
his crew. Archer feels that those actions were too risky, but, as Kirk once said,
"Risk is our business". A good ol' talk with Trip straightened out Archer
on that issue. Underneath all this silent enemy stuff, the crew plans for Reeds birthday
and tries to figure out what foods he likes. And surprise! He gets a pineapple cake. Go
figure. Overall, an average episode. Worthy of at least an average rating.
Tid Bits -
These phase canons shoot like phasers. So what's the difference? I guess this
pre-federation starfleet lets Captains command their ships (at least for 2/3 of the
episode) out of uniform.
What it all means -
"Risk, gentlemen...Risk IS out business"
3 cool peace signs
